Hi Scouts and Akelas! For the second part of our Astronomy Belt Loop and Pin Achievement project, Pack 11 will be joining the Tar River Astronomy Club for their monthly Public Viewing at the Soccer Fields across Nash Central High School Friday October 23, 2009. Viewing begins at sunset or around 6:25 PM, so get there just a bit before. The Public Viewing features telescopes and other equipment operated by TRAC members. Every time you attend, you get a chance to wind a 4" Reflecting Telescope like the one shown in the Children's Museum Gift Ship. How AWESOME is THAT!!!?? Print out the Astronomy Loop/Pin Worksheet (PDF Format) and bring it with you, as well as appropriate clothing for the weather. Dont' forget to work on this belt loop/pin at home, too. Also visit http://www.heavens-above.com/ for more astronomical data and information. Now here's the directions for the Akelas, since our scouts can't drive. Directions from Rocky Mount, NC Take US 64 West. Take the first exit after crossing over I-95. Turn left onto Old Carriage Road. Go approxiamately 2 miles and the entrance to the Soccer Fields will be to the right.
