Hi Scouts and Akelas!

For the second part of our Astronomy Belt Loop and Pin Achievement project, Pack 11 will be joining the Tar River Astronomy Club for their monthly Public Viewing at the Soccer Fields across Nash Central High School Friday October 23, 2009. Viewing begins at sunset or around 6:25 PM, so get there just a bit before. The Public Viewing features telescopes and other equipment operated by TRAC members.  Every time you attend, you get a chance to wind a 4" Reflecting Telescope like the one shown in the Children's Museum Gift Ship.  How AWESOME is THAT!!!??

Print out the Astronomy Loop/Pin Worksheet (PDF Format) and bring it with you, as well as appropriate clothing for the weather.  Dont' forget to work on this belt loop/pin at home, too.

Also visit http://www.heavens-above.com/ for more astronomical data and information.

Now here's the directions for the Akelas, since our scouts can't drive.

Directions from Rocky Mount, NC

Take US 64 West. Take the first exit after crossing over I-95.  Turn left onto Old Carriage Road. Go approxiamately 2 miles and the entrance to the Soccer Fields will be to the right.

We have "Gold Rush" next weekend.  Bring about 10 medium sized rocks to the Pack Meeting Tuesday night at 6:30.  The boys will be painting the rocks for Gold Rush at Medoc Mtn.  We will be taking a head count Tuesday on who is going.  If you have any questions, just give me a call at 252-883-8900.  Don't miss this.

We have to man a game that day also.  I will need a parent to take on supervising this as I have to work that day.

Popcorn Sale at Walgreens PDF Print E-mail

Scouts,

We have another opportunity to for a Show and Sell at Walgreen Drug Store on Saturday.  So after we finish picking up the litter at Sunset Park, we can get a bite to eat and then sell some Popcorn.  I have set up a time with the Manager on duty for 2:00 PM through 6:00 PM.  As this is a long time for some of you Scouts, we can work in two shifts.  I do need to know who will be interested and when they plan to work.  This is a uniformed event because you would be surprised how much popcorn that uniform sells for you.

Akelas,

This is an excellent opportunity for your son’s to learn by watching their fellow Pack members “work the crowd.”  The first time I did an event with my children, I made the first few sales and had them watch.  By the end of the evening, they were delighting everybody who came by.
